What teachers are paid

State school pay is a coefficient times the minimum wage, set by the public-education pay regulation (Cabinet resolution No. 275, as amended in December 2025): 2.744 for secondary-special education, 2.936 for higher education without a category, 3.287 for the second category, 3.662 for the first and 4.047 for the highest. With the minimum wage at 1,360,000 som from 1 September 2026 — the 7% budget-sector rise under presidential decree UP-115 of 23 June 2026 — that is roughly 3.73, 3.99, 4.47, 4.98 and 5.50 million som a month per full-time rate. From August 2025 to August 2026 the same coefficients gave 3.49–5.14 million; figures such as 3.39 or 4.67 million still circulating online are the October 2024 grid.

The base rate is only part of real income: class leadership, extra hours, subject premiums and qualification certificates add on top. Around 60,000 teachers with top qualifications are officially reported to earn 8–12 million som per month, and private schools and tutoring typically pay above state scales.

Teacher salary in Uzbekistan in US dollars

At the Central Bank rate of roughly 12,000 som to the dollar, the official education average of 4.97 million som is about $415 a month. State base rates by category work out at roughly $311 to $458, and the 8–12 million som that highest-category teachers with allowances can reach is about $667 to $1,000.

Those figures are gross. Income tax is a flat 12% (the 0.1% INPS pension contribution sits inside it, not on top), so take-home is about 88% of the number quoted.

What foreign English teachers earn

Almost everyone searching this in English is asking a different question from a local teacher checking their category rate — and the answer is a separate market. Recruiters advertise about $2,000–$3,500 a month for foreign English teachers in Uzbekistan in 2026, typically with free housing or a $300–$500 housing allowance, flight reimbursement or a relocation allowance, visa support and medical insurance.

Read that range for what it is: an advertised package for qualified native-speaker teachers at international schools and larger private centres, not a market average. It sits roughly five to ten times above what a teacher in the state system earns, which is the single most important thing to understand about teaching pay in Uzbekistan. Smaller private language centres pay far less than the headline range, and local teachers of English are paid on the same state or private scales as any other subject.
